Tea tree oil – Have sensitive skin? Benzoyl peroxide leaving your face dry, red and scaly? Tea tree oil is an effective, yet gentle alternative. In 1990, a leading dermatologist from Australia did a study at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney that showed the differences between benzoyl peroxide and tea tree oil on acne. Tea Tree Oil gave patients significantly less side effects, while SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASING ACNE. Tea tree oil contains an ingredient called terpinen-4-ol that is thought to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria that is considered the cause of acne.

White willow – The bark of the white willow tree (Salix alba) is often used in traditional medicine. The active ingredient in white willow is salicin, which the body converts into salicylic acid. The salicylic acid in white willow bark lowers the body's levels of prostaglandins, hormone-like compounds that can cause inflammation.

Green tea – Green tea is loaded with polyphenols, a class of phytochemicals with high concentrations of antioxidants. The vitamins and antioxidants in green tea may benefit the skin.

Organic Aloe Vera – Grown free of chemicals and fertilizers, aloe vera gum resins have been shown to have hydrating, moisturizing, as well as antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is believed that Aloe Vera has the ability to penetrate deep layers of the skin, helping to moisturize thoroughly.

Hydronium 50 (H3O+) – This gentle chemical is thought to be an effective cleansing agent for the skin.

Chamomile - Chamomile is a soothing, gentle oil that is recognized as a muscle relaxant, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent. These qualities make it important as a natural acne treatment.

Lavender - The lavender has a long history in natural remedies. It is a natural antiseptic and astringent, and can help prevent infection.

Redmond Clay – Redmond Clay is a volcanic-ash based natural facial-quality clay with no additives, chemicals or preservatives. This clay is what makes Acjuva a helpful acne facial peel. As the clay dries, it helps to extract acne-producing oils and bacteria from the face.1

Calendula – This plant is thought to have anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory properties, helping it target in on the bacterial source of acne -- Propionibacterium acnes.

Comfrey - Comfrey is an alternative treatment that is considered effective in reducing inflammation, due to its high allantoin content, a substance which enhances the growth of skin cells.2,3,4,5,6,7,8

Licorice root – Licorice root possesses natural anti-inflammatory agents that can soothe skin affected by blemishes.

DMAE - DMAE is an antioxidant and a precursor of the neurotransmitter Acetycholine (ACh). Acetycholine is responsible for feelings of well-being and relaxation. As an analog of the B vitamin, DMAE is cited as a skin-care product, with claims to enhance skin health.

Honey – Contains enzymes that rejuvenate the skin and act as an antimicrobial.

Hyaluronic acid - Skin health is dependent upon skin moisture. Hyaluronic Acid facilitates the transport of moisture in the skin, while at the same time removing the metabolic waste buildup that leads to blemishes.

Vegetable glycerin - Vegetable glycerin has emollient-like properties, which can soften and soothe the skin while retaining the moisture of the epidermis. Rather than dry your skin, vegetable glycerin allows Acnexus to cleanse your skin, keeping it moist and supple.
